General
Information
Location
Calahonda
is located at the very heart of the Costa del Sol midway between
the popular resorts of Marbella and Fuengirola. Just a 30 minute
drive from Malaga's new International Airport with daily flights
from the UK, it is ideally located for most people's leisure needs.
There are miles of sandy beaches with clear blue seas, most are
completely safe for small children. You are never far from the necessary
amenities with bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, banks and
medical centres nearby. Whilst there are good and frequent local
bus services, as well as a rail link to the principal centres, car
hire is recommended if you wish to experience all that the area
has to offer, even if only for part of your stay.
Climate
The
Costa del Sol or Sunshine Coast, is a deserved name for one of the
sunniest parts of Europe, with a June/July average of 12 hours of
sunshine a day. Temperatures in the middle of summer can peak at
over 35°C so some care is advised with exposed skin, especially
in young children. Golfers tend to avoid these hottest times and
some of the nicest periods for sports participation are in the quieter
months of May and September. Even in the depths of the British winter
Southern Spain enjoys balmy conditions with temperatures of around
15°C.
Flights
Depending
on which UK airport you're prepared to fly from, air fares to Malaga
can be very reasonable, not to say cheap. Some of the "no-frills"
airlines will now fly you for as little as £59 return! Taxis
are readily available at Malaga or car rental companies can supply
a wide range of reasonably priced hire packages, however we would
always advise pre-booking car hire to avoid delays. Don't forget
to take your driving licence with you!
